About the blog

I have been collecting Lego sets for many years and I have developed a strong passion for it. I love to pay attention to the little details in sets and I love even more to find great things about sets which seem small and basic. This blog will become host to many reviews for a wide variety of Lego sets, ranging from old themes such as Power Miners to new themes such as Nexo Knights. The reviews will not be biased and will aim to help a variety of Lego lovers such as those who are new buyers and those who collect and display.

Over the years - 1940's

In 1940, the Germans occupied Denmark which led to Godtfred Kirk Christiansen making the decision to not travel to Germany and study like he had originally planned. Instead, Godtfred becomes the manager at Lego.  In 1942, the Lego factory is burned down but the wooden toys are put back into production shortly after. In 1943, the company has roughly 40 employees.

In 1946, Lego started making wooden bricks with letters and figures as decorations. As pictured above, these would have an educational use for teaching children letters, numbers, and how to spell. Also in 1946, the Lego group becomes the first company in Denmark to buy a plastic injection moulding machine for their toy production.

In 1947, Lego start creating plastic balls for children and an educational traffic board game called 'Molypoli'. Also, six wooden animal toys are exported to India as a test. In 1948, Lego produce a game of 'Tiddlywinks' and has 50 employees.

In 1949, the Lego Automatic Binding Brick with four and eight studs is produced along with a plastic sailor and plastic fish. By the end of the 1940's, Lego produces roughly 200 different wooden and plastic toys including the Automatic Binding Bricks which, at this point, were only sold exclusively in Denmark. These bricks were the very first form of the Lego brick we are so familiar with today. Also, the first packaging with four colours is introduced.
